Home Comfort & Energy Audit

This is one of those times that an audit can help you. A home comfort & energy audit will show areas of your home that allow outside air to leak in and inside air to leak out. We also examine the insulation in your attic and walls with an infra-red (IR) camera.

First, we setup a large fan in an exterior door and depressurize the house to a specific level, 25 Pascals. We do this because whenever your doors and windows are closed there is almost always a pressure difference between the inside and outside and this will help simulate that difference. Anytime there is a pressure difference air will try to flow from either inside to outside or vice versa. We then test throughout the home for air leaking into the house. Many people expect the doors and windows to leak the most, but that usually is not the case. Leaks typically come from recessed lights and construction defects and oversights. With this test we pinpoint exactly where the air leaks are and offer recommendations on sealing them.

The IR camera will for example highlight areas where cold outside air is being drawn into the home. Also by examining the walls and ceiling we can determine if there are any spaces where the insulation is lacking. We then provide you with a report that outlines the air leakage and any insulation deficiencies found during the audit.
