Indoor Air Quality

Air Pollution, it's not just outdoor, it's indoor as well. You can't see it, but dust, pollen, spores, bacteria, mites, insects, animal dander, smoke, dirt, skin flakes and other airborne pollutants are occupying your home. These pollutants are not only harmful to you and your family they can also make your furnace and air conditioner less efficient and damage your home furnishings. The good news is that air cleaners can improve your indoor air quality by trapping particles as small as .01 microns. In fact, they are more effective than a furnace filter and even easier to maintain. Schaafsma offers two different air cleaners, an electronic and a media. Electronic air cleaners use a pre-filter coupled with an electric charge and collector plates to rid your home of pollutants. The media air cleaner is composed of interlocking network of porous fibers designed to capture particles. Both units are easy to clean. For the electronic, simply remove the unit's cells, wash with a mild soap solution, rinse, dry and replace back into the unit. For the media, remove the filter combs which hold the filter frame and dispose of the old filter. Whether electronic or media, the benefits are great; heating and cooling systems operate more efficiently which means lower utility bills, home furnishings are saved and you can breathe easier. h2. Four Good Reasons to Install an Indoor House Humidifier *Improve Indoor Air Quality* The optimum humidity level ranges between thirty and sixty percent. Humidity levels above and below this range promote bacteria, viruses, fungi, respiratory infections and asthma. Although an air conditioner is an effective way to tame summer-time humidity, a humidifier is required for the dry Michigan winters. *Increase Comfort* Static shocks, cracked nasal passages, itchy skin and dry throats during the winter can be alleviated by a whole house humidifier. *Lower Energy Costs* Wintertime humidity is a source of energy that helps to keep us warm indoors. It reduces the required indoor temperature setpoint several degrees by wrapping the body with a blanket of wet heat. *Protect Home Furnishings* The lack of winter humidity is as harsh on the house as it is on the body. Wood inside the home needs moisture - floors, woodwork and valuable furniture need to breathe by keeping the home properly humidified during the winter.
